Food Extenders – How to prepare more food while paying for less
I have been using cauliflower as a food extender for a few months now and I’m very impressed by the results.
I use equal amounts of cauliflower and equal amounts of ground beef or lamb plus 1 egg, salt, pepper, onions and seasoning. Put everything in a blender and blend until smooth. Make patties and pan-fry in oil.
Cauliflower has no taste on its own and absorbs the flavors of whatever it is cooked with. By blending very finely, it can be added to meat patties and when cooked, you will not even notice. I use a 50/50 mixture of cauliflower and meat; my family does not notice at all and I save up to one third of the cost of buying pure ground meat! It’s also so much healthier.
